About UK NEQAS for Leucocyte Immunophenotyping

UK NEQAS for Leucocyte Immunophenotyping is an international External Quality Assessment (EQA)/Proficiency Testing (PT) provider hosted by, and is legally accountable to, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We currently provide EQA/PT services for molecular haemato-oncology and flow cytometry for haematological/immunological assays.

UK NEQAS LI was established as a regional programme in 1986. At that time a total of 20 UK laboratories participated in the single programme available at that time.

Currently, there are over 2300 active registrations worldwide within the 30 programmes now operated by the centre.

The programme is hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has dedicated laboratory facilities at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Programmes operated by UK NEQAS LI are overseen in 2 ways:

  1. By a dedicated Steering Committee covering all programmes.
  2. By a Specialist Advisory Group (SAG) with focus on the molecular programmes.

This oversight ensures that the programmes operated by this center are clinically relevant, fit for purpose and are developed in parallel to current clinical practice.
