Meet the Team

Our experienced team works closely with laboratories around the world to support excellence in laboratory testing. Find out more about us below.

Stuart Scott Programme Director

Stuart joined UK NEQAS for Leucocyte Immunophenotyping (LI) in 2012 and leads the development and delivery of External Quality Assessment programmes supporting over 2500 laboratories worldwide. His work focuses on ensuring robust performance standards for flow cytometric and molecular genetic assays across a range of haematological disorders, with particular interests in measurable residual disease monitoring and emerging molecular technologies.

Before joining UK NEQAS LI, Stuart spent ten years as a Clinical Scientist at the Sheffield Diagnostics Genetics Service, eventually leading the molecular haemato-oncology service.

Stuart is a member of several professional bodies including the UK NEQAS Charitable Board of Trustees, where he is vice president of working groups and the British Society for Genomic Medicine. He regularly contributes to national and international working groups on standardisation and has published extensively on quality assessment in laboratory medicine.

Outside of work, Stuart enjoys track running and recently competed for Great Britain at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Madeira.

Andrea Western Clinical Scientist

Andrea is a Clinical Scientist who has recently joined UK NEQAS for Leucocyte Immunophenotyping (LI), to work on programmes for molecular genetic assays across a range of haematological disorders. She brings almost 20 years’ experience of working in genomics and molecular haematology, both at Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service and the University of Sheffield.

Her background includes research, diagnostic service delivery, and leadership roles, including management of sequencing services covering Sanger and next-generation sequencing (NGS).  She has broad experience across molecular haematology, oncology, solid tumour testing, and pharmacogenetics, and has worked on several assay development, service validation, and quality improvement projects within a Genomic Laboratory Hub setting.

Outside of work, Andrea enjoys running, swimming, and cycling, and occasionally attempts to compete in triathlons.

Liv Brulez-Walker Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Liv is a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with a background in Immunology and Flow cytometry with particular interest in primary and secondary Immunodeficiencies. In addition to this she also has a developing professional interest in the application of Flow cytometry for Haematological Malignancies.

She joined UK NEQAS LI in April 2025 as a Flow Scientist, where she is responsible for the delivery and ongoing management of four flow cytometry programmes. Her role includes the provision of technical and scientific support to participating laboratories, oversight of sample quality assessment, data and report generation and review of performance monitoring.

Outside of work, she enjoys true crime, reading and dog walking.
